Therapeutic Horticulture (TH):

Sensory Garden, Botanical Craft, & Flower Arranging Workshops

To view some of the seasonal presentations that Ann provides to healthcare agencies, community centres, and garden clubs, and that are available for bespoke training, please see a summary here.

Workshops that focus on various areas of therapeutic horticulture (TH) such as sensory and therapeutic garden design, botanical crafts, and flower arranging are very popular.

Ann's garden and nature-based presentations appeal to anyone who wishes to have a closer connection to his or her own garden and to those who are seeking knowledge, skills, and inspiration for work in such locales as complex care facilities, rehabilitation programs, and adult day care settings.

Spring 2012 - Sensory Garden and TH Workshops

Ann Kent is presently working on her workshop schedule for the coming year. For inquiries about her availability in 2012, please contact Ann at horticulture@catkingardens.ca

The following workshop, adapted for various contexts or given as a demonstration to larger groups, has been Ann's most requested presentation during the past two years.

The Flower Arranger’s Garden in Spring (or Fall), 2.5 hours - Vancouver

This workshop focuses on the use of seasonal garden material and inexpensive cut flowers to design distinctive and informal floral arrangements to create at home or with clients in a residential or therapeutic setting. No experience is necessary to enjoy this lively and stimulating class. Bring a selection of favourite vases or containers as you will complete several arrangements to take home. All greenery, floral materials, and useful handouts are included in the $60.00 fee. Class size is limited to 8 participants.

Salsa's Garden

Salsa's Garden is the title of a coloured pencil drawing I made some years ago from a photo taken of our cat, Salsa, after he had wedged himself into a pottery bowl to look at our back garden.

I chose it for this page because I could never have attempted such a drawing if it had not been for  the encouragement of instructors at a local community centre where I enrolled many times as a student wanting to learn how to draw.

Short courses and workshops are great for developing new skills and building confidence.

Salsa's Garden represents my commitment to life long learning for people of all ages and abilities and the restorative connection I find in my own garden. Ann Kent, March, 2009
